I’ll not go into the marketing aspects of a genericized trademark since Google has put it so succinctly. But they must be joking… asking consumers to “please” not overuse the word google as a verb

I think it makes sense and Google does have a long term vision. I believe their point of view is that if google becomes a lexicon and gets into the dictionary, then there is a good possibility of copyright violations. People could freely use google in the name of their company and say that it’s a dictionary word, hence it cannot be copyrighted. eg: I could start a travelgoogle.com or a photogoogle.com and so on. I would say they are really smart and learn from History. Take the case of photocopiers.. People say Xerox for photocopying. The brand is so diluted that one would walk to a canon shop and ask to purchase a Xerox machine.
