PresentationEveryday, I’m reminded just how alien these overhyped concepts are to normal people. I’ve just spoken at the Content Management Strategies conference in Singapore organized by ABF, and I prepared a deck mainly dealing in “2.0″-ish stuff (for lack of a better term). From what I heard, “Web 2.0″ was the hot topic among speakers, but when spoken about, it was usually the same pattern (including in my presentation):

Speaker: Web 2.0… Tags… AJAX… woohoo (in much flatter tones than that would suggest)

Audience: Huh?! (Blank look on faces)

Just reminds me that sometimes we get so caught up in the tech marketing hype that we forget that most users out there are just normal people.. not weirdo geeks like me. Trust me… I’m dealing with customers right now, and all they want is for stuff to work, and to earn more money. Plain and simple.

Major learning - don’t need to bludgeon customers with hype. Especially in Singapore where everyone’s still a little behind the curve. And we all know non-geek Singaporeans tend to have a narrow focus on immediate issues at hand, and usually have no patience for the latest “in” thing.
I’ll post up my slide deck in PDF soon (I spoke on Enterprise 2.0 in particular, since I’m right now working more or less in the enterprise space). But be warned. In the meantime, here’s a couple of introductions to keep you happy in this otherwise linkless post:

Businessweek’s introduction to Enterprise 2.0 for CEOs (and we all know that we are ALL CEOs in training :-)

Something to say?
