I’ve always wanted to mention this… I both love Yahoo! and hate Yahoo! at the same time now. The picture below will tell you why…

Widget Install

You see, I was upgrading Konfabulator… oh I mean Yahoo! Widgets… and if you haven’t noticed, they’ve added the convenient option of choosing Yahoo! toolbar and Yahoo! central, and making Yahoo! my homepage. That’s more Yahoo! than I care to handle. But the kicker is that…

It’s all opt out. It’s unchecked in the picture because I UNCHECKED IT.

You know, I respect the company for recognizing the value of Konfabulator. It’s cool, and even Google and MSN.. oh I mean Windows Live (Am I the only one confused?)… are copying it. Same thing with Del.icio.us and Flickr. Fabulous services - but all corrupted by the big parent company’s need to win - corruption in the form of going all out to irritate folks like me and ensnaring poor unfortunate users who don’t know what they are signing up to.

I’ve got proof right here.

p.s. I used to be working for MSN, so I know the motivations behind this all too well… doesn’t make it better even for me. And I could go into why things like this happen, but that’s a whole essay on organizational and corporate culture versus user-centricity and the a-la carte web. See… you’re already bored.

Something to say?
